The community in Formby are excited about the beach at Formby’s Lifeboat Road in Merseyside, which is not only a bit of a beauty, but has achieved the Excellent water quality standards award which is the highest possible grade given to outdoor swimming spots.

This well deserved recognition follows tough water standard tests from the Department for Environmental Food and Rural Affairs who published the 2015 water quality standard classifications for England’s 418 outdoor swimming.*

Peter Edwards branch manager for Reeds Rains Formby explains why Formby beach is such a wonderful beauty spot.

“For me, it’s the sand dunes that are the main appeal of Formby beach which provide great dune racing opportunities. While you are stood on top you can see the views across the beach and out to the sea which is breath taking.

Families and wildlife watchers enjoy exploring the coastline taking advantage of the grassy fields, woodland path and lake. The surrounding area is a picturesque haven for birds, fish and amphibians living among the reeds and shade of the trees.

The community in Formby is passionate about the beach which is brilliant and everyone works together to help maintain the local area which strengthens its appeal.

When people think of beaches in the North West, Blackpool and Southport come to mind with their bright lights and seaside souvenir shops.

But Formby beach is an entirely different scene altogether. Its main attraction is that there’s no man-made ‘attractions’, just pure, natural, unspoilt beauty.”
