Evesham Local Area

Evesham is a delightful historic riverside town, surrounded by picturesque countryside and has excellent road and rail links to much of the rest of the country.

In 1265 it was the site of the battle of Evesham, in which Simon de Montfort was defeated. It was also the home of one of Europes’s largest Medieval abbeys. During the Civil War Evesham was once again a battlefield site, however in today’s less turbulent times visitors are more likely to visit the town for its many varied and eclectic festivals.

These festivals take place throughout the year and include the asparagus festival, for which The Vale of Evesham is world famous. The town hosts one of the largest fishing festivals in the UK, as well as balloon and river festivals, and an impressive firework display in November.

Within the historic town centre, which includes many Medieval and Georgian buildings, there are a wide variety of local amenities, including a diverse mix of local shops and an excellent variety of restaurants and pubs. A short stroll from the centre is the iconic Regal cinema. Local sports facilities include tennis, rowing, cricket, football, rugby, boules, cycling clubs and a very modern leisure centre with two swimming pools.

Evesham is well known for its education links and is served by schools for all ages, with excellent Ofsted results.

Communication to and from the town is first class, with a main line rail commuter service to Oxford and Paddington, London in around 2 hours. Motorway links include the M5 at Tewkesbury and Worcester, M42 at Redditch and M40 at Warwick. In addition the major centres of Worcester, Cheltenham and Stratford on Avon are all close by.

With it’s fascinating history, superb location and vibrant community, Evesham is an ideal location in which to live and work and we at Reeds Rains look forward to talking to you about our town.
