We’d like to wish our colleague, Jamie Kennerdale, the best of luck this weekend as he takes part in the ‘Worthington Walk ’a 22-mile hike in aid of charity and in commemoration of Frank Worthington; a legend of Huddersfield Town Football Club, who sadly died earlier this year.
Jamie, who is the branch manager at our Halifax branch, is taking part in the challenge with his father in law and hopes to raise money for the charities associated with the event; the Alzheimer’s Society and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
I’m a huge Huddersfield fan, and supporter of local community initiatives, and just wanted to show my support for this event and to help raise money for two great charities, both of which seem particularly relevant in view of Frank’s struggle with Alzheimer’s over the last 20 years.
Frank played for nearly 30 years, both for Huddersfield Town and internationally and, as a result, had many followers and was seen as a keen supporter of the club - it just seems so sad that he is now no longer with us.
I haven’t done any particular training for the event (and know there are some hills to climb along the way) but I’m sure the anticipated support for the walk and the fact that it will send us via some of Frank’s other former clubs in the region – will spur me (and my fellow walkers) on. I know a lot of people do amazing things for charity but I hope that this will be one way I can show my support for Frank's family and for two charities I know are very much appreciated by the community in which I live and work. I thank everyone who has already supported me in my fundraising and will continue to do all I can to raise even more for these charities as the event fast approaches.”
