World Environment Day

Every day, our choices affect our planet. World Environment Day reminds us that even small actions, like turning off a light or choosing locally grown food, can help create a healthier world.

Around the world, more than four hundred million tonnes of plastic are produced each year. Sadly, less than 10% of that plastic is recycled.

This means that about eleven million tonnes of plastic end up in our lakes, rivers, and seas each year. That weight is equal to 2,200 Eiffel Towers.

These figures show the scale of the plastic problem and why every individual effort matters.

World Environment Day teaches us that our daily choices have the power to create change. Many households are reducing the use of plastics designed for one-time use, saving water by repairing leaks, and choosing appliances that use less energy.

Even though these actions may seem small, together they add up to a big difference for the environment.

Even in places with strong recycling systems, many people do not sort their plastic correctly.

In some communities, only 10 to 20 percent of plastic waste is recycled properly because mixed materials end up in landfills. This means that correct sorting is just as important as the decision to recycle.

World Environment Day is a celebration of the simple acts that make a difference. It reminds us to care for our shared home and to improve our habits over time. When we treat nature with respect, every small action contributes to a better future.

Today, let us celebrate our green choices and encourage others to join us in building a cleaner, greener world. Every piece of properly sorted plastic, every drop of saved water, and every light turned off counts towards keeping our planet healthy.
