Located down the Portaferry road, only a fifteen-minute drive from the town centre is Mount Stewart, a national trust park with legendary walks and many activities as the seasons change. The park is also famous for the 'Festival of Lights' which happens once a year, it coats the park in a multi-coloured glow, with a two mile route to walk around the estate people can view the park in a completely different light, with various scores of music following them as they walk. Scrabo tower, which overlooks the town, has its own golf club and walking trails, recently visited by a famous footballer who took full advantage of the sights and sounds of this route as a part of his physical routine.
