Rawtenstall is a town at the centre of the Rossendale Valley. Most people who visit borough will enter Rawtenstall via the A56 bypass, known as the gateway to Rossendale. Rawtenstall lies just over 17 miles north of Manchester and around 20 miles east of Preston. Burnley, Bury and Rochdale are also within easy reach. The town has a number of good quality primary schools and high schools, plus the highly regarded Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School. Bank Street is the main thoroughfare in the town which is the home to a varied selection of independent shops . There is also a bustling market place. Key attractions of the area along with its beautiful countryside include Ski Rossendale and the East Lancashire steam railway.
