Originally built by the Manchester Ship Canal Company, Salford Quays was originally part of the Manchester Docks and was opened by Queen Victoria herself in 1894. After their closure as a working dock in 1982, Salford Quays was redeveloped and rebranded. Dams have isolated the areas and improved the quality of the water.

In more recent years roads and bridges have been built and a beautiful promenade has been landscaped into the area. The area now contains a hotel and cinema, as well as housing and offices. Nearby is the impressive Imperial War Museum North, The Lowry, and Media City, a development for creative industries.

Salford Quays is an area that offers residents the opportunity to live in an area usually below the price levels of central Manchester whilst still being remarkably close to the facilities. The area is particularly popular with professionals and service users for the area. Commuting is made particularly easy by public transport including Metrolink, and the M602 provides access to the motorway network.

This is an area with a mixture of professionals taking advantage of a dock side, calming location as well as and families enjoying nearby residential areas. Salford Quays has seen a huge amount of redevelopment, and neatly comprises residential areas, offices and commercial premises, even the infamous Trafford Centre feels as though it is just round the corner. Salford Quays is now most famous for the BBC /Granada Media City complex, formed as part of the BBC relocation from central London.

There are many restaurants located in the area and some well-known brands located on the entrance to the “The Quays”. There are some local stores for quick shops and full sized supermarkets all a short drive or walk away so there is always a store to suit. The Lowry Outlet provides a local selection of Mall shopping, but for bigger tastes, The Trafford Centre is close at hand which offers a much wider choice, with food, drink and cinema all under one roof.

Greg Davies, manager of Reeds Rains says “Salford Quays offers a peaceful area featuring high quality apartments set on the dock side, and a regeneration of modern housing in the area leading through to central Manchester. Despite being a quieter area, those looking for a change of pace can easily get back into the heart of Manchester City Centre. It is well serviced with public transport which allows access to all the facilities in the area”

As one of the Salford Quays most established estate agents, Reeds Rains have properties throughout the area and even in the more suburban location on the outskirts. The most popular apartments are the dock side homes, offering charm and tranquillity. These apartments come with varying levels of service charges and provide things such as lifts, communal spaces, maintenance and concierge services, so there is always something for everyone and they cater for all needs.

The Quays offers a full year-round programme of events and activities for visitors and residents of all ages and interests. From world class art installations, sporting events, exhibitions and shows, to walks and tours, boat trips and family-friendly activities, The Quays is home to it all.
